Don is the firm's team leader in Construction Law and his practice is primarily focused upon the construction and media industries. Within these industries, Don provides a wide range of legal services. His construction law practice involves providing advice to a large international general contractor and to many institutional and public body owners, in respect of matters including construction contracts, tendering, insurance and bonding, builders’ liens, litigation and alternate dispute resolution. Don has provided advice to Contractors and Owners in over 40 Canadian P3 Infrastructure Projects, across Canada, the U.S and Austrailia. He has participated in numerous complex oil and gas mega-projects in Alberta and U.S. He teaches the Construction Law Course at the Faculty of Law at the University of Alberta. His media law practice involves providing advice to local and national, print and broadcast media in respect of prepublication advice, and litigating issues involving defamation, contempt of court, constitutional challenges and publication bans.
Don is married with two children and enjoys playing golf and playing / coaching hockey.
