2019 Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory Rankings

RMRF congratulates eight of our partners on their inclusion in the 2019 Canadian Lexpert Directory. Published for over 20 years, the Canadian Lexpert Directory is based on an extensive peer survey process which includes profiles for leading practitioners across Canada.

E. Sonny Mirth, Q.C.

Sonny is consistently recognized in the Lexpert Directory. In this year’s edition he is acknowledged for three areas of law including Banking & Financial Institutions, Property Development, and Property Leasing. Sonny has practiced law with RMRF for over five decades and his highly regarded contribution to the legal profession is acknowledged by clients, peers, and various organizations alike.

Michael J. McCabe, Q.C.

Michael’s litigation practice is primarily focused on bankruptcy and insolvency matters leading to his recognition in this year’s Directory in the area of Insolvency & Financial Restructuring. Michael’s articles have occasionally been referred to by the Courts including to the Alberta Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Fred Kozak, Q.C.

Fred is RMRF’s Litigation Team Lead. His civil litigation practice has an emphasis on media and defamation issues and in the 2019 Directory is aptly recognized in the practice area of Litigation – Defamation & Media. Fred represents several national news organizations and has served as counsel in several cases where the Charter has been used to strike down provincial or federal legislation.

Victor L. Lirette

Victor’s practice focuses on real estate development, finance, and construction law. His recognition in this year’s Directory is in the area of Property Development. Victor is also the firm’s Financial Team Leader and presents various seminars and courses of interest to those involved in the development, banking, and construction industries.

Donald C.I. Lucky

RMRF’s Managing Partner and Construction Team Leader, Don has been recognized in the area of Construction Law for 12 years. His practice involves providing advice to a large international general contractor and to many public and private owners alike. Don is also recognized in Infrastructure Law. His work in this area includes over 100 P3 infrastructure projects locally, nationally and internationally.

Tim Mavko

Tim is recognized as a leading practitioner in the area of Construction Law for the third year in a row. As an accomplished litigator he has been involved in both negotiating the contracts and handling the disputes for some of North America’s largest mega-projects. Tim is also a sessional instructor on Construction Law at the University of Alberta Faculty of Law.

Matthew A. Woodley

This is Matt’s third year as a recognized leading practitioner in the area of Litigation – Defamation & Media. He is a member of the Alberta, Northwest Territories, and Yukon Bars and provides advice to numerous print and broadcast media organizations. In addition to appearing as counsel before the Yukon Court of Appeal on a media law matter, and the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal in a case involving defamation, Matt has appeared as counsel before the Supreme Court of Canada in a matter involving constitutional challenge to a publication ban.

Jeremy Taitinger

Jeremy is recognized as a leading practitioner in the area of Construction Law. Jeremy assists his clients in navigating and resolving an array of complex issues and disputes arising from construction projects. He also lectures at the Edmonton Construction Association and University of Alberta Faculty of Law.
