Michael is a litigator who acts for a range of clients including professional regulatory organizations, municipalities and public bodies, employers and employees, and media outlets. He approaches his work with a keen eye for detail and a practical sensibility. His clients appreciate his thoughtful, candid, and thorough advice.
Michael provides advice in the area of Municipal Tax Assessment for municipalities throughout Alberta. He has appeared as primary and secondary counsel at hearings before Assessment Review Boards and the Municipal Government Board in matters related to tax assessment. Michael is a member of the Association of Canadian Assessors’ Counsel.
Michael works with organizations that regulate and govern various professions. His work includes prosecuting discipline matters and acting as independent legal counsel to disciplinary tribunals.
Michael practices Employment Law, working with both employers and employees. He helps clients resolve disputes including wrongful termination suits and other claims related to employment. This includes Human Rights matters that arise within employment relationships. In addition, he assists employer clients in preparing policies and documents related to human resources.
Michael also represents both plaintiffs and defendants in defamation lawsuits. His clients include individuals as well as media outlets.
Prior to joining RMRF Michael clerked at the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench. He has appeared before the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta and various administrative tribunals and boards in Alberta.
